Overview

A bike and boat cruise through the beautiful islands of South Dalmatia. The itinerary is arranged to suit families with children and includes walks, bike rides and swimming from the boat in quiet secluded bays. During the week you’ll visit 5 different islands as well as the magical Cetina Canyon on the mainland.

Following a similar itinerary to our South Dalmatia Bike and Boat holiday this version has been devised especially for families with children aged between 5 and 13. The guided bike rides are quite short, allowing everyone to enjoy them together and there are also a few short guided walks as well as plenty of opportunities to swim in the crystal clear waters of the Adriatic. There’s also an exciting option to join a rafting excursion through the beautiful Cetina Canyon.

Children love the adventure of this kind of holiday. Life on board is informal, allowing everyone to truly unwind. The friendly crew take care of everything so all you and your family have to do is relax and enjoy the new experiences, wonderful food and incredible sights that each day brings.

The on-board guide knows these islands well. In addition to leading the bike rides and town walks he/she will also be happy to recommend nearby beaches and places of interest if you wanted to go off and explore as a family.

Swimming from the boat is one of the unique attractions of this fabulous holiday and on most afternoons the captain will drop anchor in an idyllic little bay for a relaxing swim stop. The boats carry an assortment of inflatable paddle boards and lilos to makes these occasions even more fun.

The islands of south Dalmatia are quiet, serene and incredibly beautiful. You’ll moor each night in quaint harbours and medieval towns. After an al-fresco dinner on board it’s always nice to step ashore for a wander round somewhere completely new each evening.

The rides and walks are quite short and designed to be enjoyed by families. The guides will be happy to suggest extensions if you want to ride/walk a little further.

Day 1: Trogir

Trogir - Croatia

Trogir

Fly into Split airport and then take a short taxi ride or public bus the 6 kms to Trogir. Check in is between 2pm to 2.30pm and at 3pm the crew cast off and we enjoy an afternoon cruise to the island of Šolta. En-route we’ll moor in a quiet bay with crystal clear water to enjoy our first swim from the boat.

Day 2: Islands of Hvar and Vis

Hvar Town - Hvar - Croatia*

View from Spanish Fortress above Hvar Town

During breakfast the boat cruises to the island of Hvar, mooring in the island’s beautiful capital, Hvar Town. After a guided walk around the Renaissance Square we take on the climb to the Spanish Fortress that stands guard over the town. The views from the battlements over the surrounding islands are quite stunning and more than compensate for the exertion. At noon we re-board our boat for a relaxing afternoon cruise to the island of Vis. On route we’ll stop in a quiet bay for a swim stop before mooring in the pretty harbour town of Vis. In the late afternoon our guide takes us a on a stroll through the town explaining more about the island’s interesting history and taking in the fortress of St. George. We remain moored in Vis for the night.

Day 3: Island of Korčula, 8 miles/13 kms cycle ride

Korcula

Korčula Town

A morning cruise brings us to the tiny port of Račišće on the beautiful island of Korčula. Here we disembark with the bikes for an easy ride along the coast to the capital, Korčula Town. It’s a lovely ride past turquoise bays and tiny hamlets with breathtaking views across the strait to the Pelješac peninsula. Kitesurfers and windsurfers flit backwards and forwards across the strait enjoying the regular afternoon breeze that pushes you gently along on your route east. Korčula Town is a gorgeous old town located on spit of land jutting out into the strait. A guided tour through the narrow winding streets is a delight and there’s also plenty of time to explore at your leisure as the boat remains moored in this bustling place for the night.

Day 4: Island of Hvar, 8 miles/13 kms cycle ride

Stari Grad

Stari Grad

A morning cruise, including a swim stop, brings us back to the island of Hvar, this time to the old port of Stari Grad. It’s a pretty place with a thriving community of artists and we highly recommend a stroll along the quay-side to soak up the atmosphere. In the afternoon we cycle eastwards on quiet meandering lanes through pine forests to the charming little harbour of Jelsa. There’s a rather fabulous ice cream parlour in the main square which has become the natural meeting place in this quaint little village. We re-board the boat for a late afternoon cruise to the Island of Brač where we moor in one of the pretty ports on the north coast.

Day 5: Island of Brač, 3 miles/5 kms coastal walk

Swimming from the boat

Swimming from the boat

After breakfast we cruise to a quiet bay and drop anchor for a relaxing morning of water activities. Feel free to make use of the inflatable paddle-boards, lilos etc. that are carried on board for guests to use or alternatively just enjoy a spot of sunbathing. After lunch we disembark on an idyllic stretch of deserted coast near Lovrecina Bay for an enjoyable afternoon walk along a coastal path through pine forests to the small port of Postira. The small port is a bustling little place and an enjoyable spot to moor for the night.

Day 6: Omiš – Cetina Canyon – Island of Šolta, Rafting excursion (optional)

Rafting the Cetina Canyon

Rafting the Cetina Canyon

A short breakfast cruise brings us across the strait to Omiš, an old port at the mouth of the Cetina River with a rich pirate heritage. During the 13th and 14th centuries the town’s inhabitants enjoyed legendary status for their seamanship and fighting skills. This awesome reputation enabled them to charge levies for unhindered passage through the Adriatic. Because of this Omiš was also referred to as the ‘Nest of Pirates‘.

Today you have a choice. You can either book the optional rafting trip down the Cetina River (payable locally) or take a stroll around the town and beach of Omiš. The rafting trip is excellent fun and well organised. Experienced guides accompany each raft ensuring the two hour journey is exhilarating but safe. Along the way they impart paddling advice, local knowledge and bad jokes in equal measure. The river is a protected habitat and you’ll marvel at the beautiful, natural scenery all around you.

Afterwards we re-board our boat for an afternoon cruise to the peaceful port of Rogač on the island of Šolta where we moor for the night.

Day 7: Island of Šolta – Trogir

Trogir - Croatia

Trogir

In the morning we ride or take a bus transfer to meet Goran, an enthusiastic local bee keeper. Goran’s interactive and informative workshop/presentation is always enjoyed by young and old alike and his passion for these important, hard-working creatures is infectious. Thereafter you can either continue on a short cycle ride to the port of Maslinica and back or return to the boat directly. After lunch on board we cast off for the cruise back to our home port of Trogir. Along the way we will drop anchor for a final, refreshing dip in the Adriatic. Back in our home port we enjoy a guided walk through the charming old town, followed by a celebratory  dinner on-board with our fellow passengers and crew.

Day 8: Departure

After breakfast its time to disembark, by 9am, and head for home or your next adventure.
