Overview

A bike and boat cycling holiday through the beautiful islands of Croatia’s Kvarner Bay in the Adriatic Sea. Live aboard a well-appointed motor yacht, disembarking each day for leisurely cycle rides through gorgeous, unspoilt countryside. Moor up in a new, enchanting port each night. Step ashore after dinner to explore at your leisure.

Highlights of this fabulous cycle cruise holiday include the impressive, walled town of Rab, the dramatic landscapes of Pag, the glorious medieval city of Zadar and the fascinating island of Cres. There’s much more besides, and daily, guided cycle rides ensure you see the highlights of each island visited. If you fancy a break from the bikes you can always spend a day onboard and soak up the sun with a good book instead.

Andela Lora

The Andela Lora

Your boat is the Andela Lora, a modern, well-appointed  motor yacht offering very comfortable accommodation and excellent service. You’ll be treated to wonderful meals on board and when you’re not biking you can enjoy the ship’s saloon, bathing platform and extensive sun decks.

The daily rides on this bike and boat holiday are relatively short but most involve some climbs of one kind or another. The guided rides are well paced with plenty of time to admire the views and e-bikes are a very popular option on this tour as they make the daily routes accessible to anyone with a basic level of fitness. Most roads are paved and there is very little traffic to contend with.

Day 1: Arrive Omišalj – Cres

Cres Town - Cres - Croatia*

Cres Town

On arrival in the tiny port of Omišalj on the island of Krk make your way to the boat by 2-2:30pm and settle into your cabin. Around 3pm we slip our moorings and embark on an afternoon cruise of about 4 hours to the island of Cres. We moor for the night in the delightful little port town of Cres – the island’s capital. After dinner on board why not take a stroll through the narrow flag-stoned streets of this atmospheric little place, perhaps stopping off for a night-cap in one of the cosy bars.

Day 2: Islands of Cres and Lošinj, 14 miles/23 kms

Mali Losinj

Mali Lošinj

The day starts with a leisurely cruise down the coast to the port of Martinšćica from where our first ride begins. A pleasant ride through pine, fig and laurel forests, interspersed with beautiful sea views, brings us to the artists’ village of Osor. The village straddles the narrow strait that separates Cres from its neighbour, Lošinj Island. Here we re-board the boat for lunch. In the afternoon we cast off for a lazy cruise to Mali-Lošinj, a charming little port town with a picturesque natural harbour. En-route we will probably stop in a secluded bay to swim from the boat in wonderfully clear waters. We moor for the night in Mali-Lošinj.

Day 3: Islands of Lošinj and Molat, 6-12 miles/10-20 kms

Views from Molat

Views from Molat

The day starts with an easy and highly enjoyable ride south, along the coast, to the neighbouring town of Veli Lošinj, an idyllic little village with brightly painted houses clustered around a tiny harbour. Here we re-board the ship for lunch and in the afternoon embark on a leisurely cruise south to the island of Molat. After disembarking in a quiet, scenic little port we take a leisurely ride around the island. The Andela Lora remains moored in the scenic port on Molat for the night.

Day 4: Island of Dugi Otok – Zadar, 26 miles/42 kms

Dugi Otok - Croatia*

View from the ride on Dugi Otok

A breakfast cruise brings us to Božava on the island of Dugi Otok. This is a long narrow island with a ridge running along its spine and our ride today leads us along its whole length offering spectacular views of the open sea to our right and the many islands of the archipelago to our left. We rejoin the ship in the port town of Sali for an afternoon cruise across the straits to the historic town of Zadar on Croatia’s mainland. For centuries this town was the capital of Dalmatia and over 3000 years of history are contained within its fortified walls. You’ll enjoy exploring the narrow flag-stoned streets of this atmospheric town. Don’t miss the ingenious sea organ on the quayside.

Day 5: Island of Pag – Rab, 13 miles/20 kms

Rab - Croatia

Rab

The day starts with a leisurely cruise north to the island of Pag. We disembark in Novalja and embark on a relaxing ride north through a harsh but romantic landscape criss-crossed with white stone walls and dotted with olive and fig groves. We rendezvous with the ship in the tiny little port of Lun and make the short crossing to the island of Rab. We moor for the night in Rab, the island’s capital, a beautiful fortified town with a maze of narrow winding alleys to explore at your leisure.

Day 6: Island of Rab, 15 miles/25 kms

Cycling in Croatia

Cycling in Croatia

After breakfast we disembark for a highly enjoyable ride around charming Rab Island. The circular route leads us through shady forests, past lovely beaches and pretty towns. At lunchtime we re-board the boat and cruise across to the mainland to admire the unique Zavratnica Fjord before heading north once more to the island of Krk. The town of Krk is yet another gorgeous little port town with winding streets, inviting cafes and bars – the perfect place to moor for the night.

Day 7: Island of Krk, 28 miles/45 kms

Vrbnik - Krk

Vrbnik

Our last day in the saddle is a relatively long one but by now our legs are conditioned so it’s no problem. We ride up the ridge that runs the length of the island and after stopping to enjoy the views, we freewheel down to the quaint little town of Vrbnik that sits on a 50 meter cliff above the sea. Here it would be rude not to sample at least a drop of the town’s famous Zlahtina wine before continuing along the coast northwards. After a while we reach the serene and peaceful bay of Soline and  this is the perfect place for a refreshing dip before embarking on the final 10 kilometers to Omišalj and journey’s end. A last meal and get together in the ship’s cosy salon is the ideal way to finish an unforgettable holiday.

Day 8: Omišalj

After breakfast it’s time to check out by 9am and head for home or your next adventure.

Getting There

Rijeka Airport is only a few minutes from Omisalj but it is poorly served from the UK. The more viable arrival airport is Zagreb, some 2 hours away from Omisalj. Our local supplier offers transfers on embarkation and disembarkation day from/to Zagreb airport. These transfers operate at set times; 12.15 pm from Zagreb to Omisalj on embarkation day and 8am from Omisalj to Zagreb Airport on disembarkation day. Transfer prices can be found under ‘supplements’ on the dates and prices page.
