Arrive in Cannigione your base for the next three nights. This is a long established seaside town with easy access to the wonderful beaches of the Costa Smeralda. The town has a nice relaxed vibe with pretty pastel coloured buildings and a good choice of restaurants and bars for you to enjoy typical Italian food and wine in the evenings.

Today you will explore Costa Smeralda and start with a ride up into the hills of San Pantaleo. Cycle through Porto Cervo with its many designer shops, choice of restaurants and bars and of course the marina, lined with luxury yachts! Then cycle along to the more casual and lively seaside resort of Baia Sardinia, a well known lively seaside resort, with many facilities and amenities. Finally back to Cannigione for the evening.

Cycle to Palau this morning where you take the ferry across to the Island of Maddalena with its crystal clear waters and wonderful beaches. Cross over the 600m causeway to Caprera. The island is best known as the home of Garibaldi who was one of the fathers of independence. You can visit his home, now a museum, and see a monument built in his honour. Afterwards make your way back to Cannigione for the evening.

Today the route leads you inland away from the coast to the town of Arzachena and then on up to beautiful Lake Liscia surrounded by gently rolling green hills. From here it’s an exhilarating freewheel down to the charming village of Calangianus and then, after few more kilometers on quiet country lanes, you reach the lovely old town of Tempio Pausania where you stop for the night.

Today’s route leads you back towards the sea passing the ‘Valle della Luna’ or Moon valley surrounded by high granite rocks and caves which form rather odd but impressive shapes. Your destination is the medieval town of Castelsardo built on a cliff overlooking the sea and a place of natural beauty. Perhaps visit the castle of the Doria, perched on a promontory as it offers wonderful views. Relax this evening in town.

A mix of wonderful scenery today. Enjoy the clear blue waters of the coast as you cycle through coastal villages before turning inlands where the scenery becomes more dramatic with green rolling hills and pastures. Arrive into Sassari, Sardinia’s second largest city and one of the oldest. Time permitting we suggest a visit to the rather isolated Holy Trinity Basilica of Saccargia, a rustic old church dating back to 1116 and a piece of monastic history.

Cycle through back roads to reach the ancient city of Alghero. Founded by the Spanish, today it still retains some of its Catalan character and language. The architecture also reflects Catalan and Gothic influences but the medieval centre with its cobbled stoned streets and busy squares is decidedly Italian. There is a great choice of restaurants and bars to spend your last balmy evening.

After breakfast it’s time to check-out and head for home or your next adventure.
