The route starts in Pauillac in the Haut-Médoc wine region on the left bank of the Gironde estuary before crossing to the right bank and leading you via some of the worlds most renowned vineyards to the delightful wine village of Saint-Èmilion. The route then curves back to Bordeaux via more stunning vineyard-covered countryside.

The route offers relaxed riding on quite country lanes and cycle paths. The terrain is gently undulating and the scenery is sublime.

You'll be accommodated in very comfortable 3 and 4 star hotels along the route. Needless to say the wines and gastronomy in this region are amongst the world's best.

Day 1 : Arrive Bordeaux - transfer to Pauillac

Arrive at Bordeaux railway station or airport where you will be picked up and transferred to to your accommodation in Pauillac. Your bikes and route notes will be waiting for you at the hotel and the rest of the day is yours to relax or explore the local area.

Day 2 : Pauillac - Blaye
37 miles/60km

Pauillac wines are held in very high regard in the international fine wine market. These famous and expensive red wines are made predominantly using the Cabernet Sauvignon grape. Today's relaxing and very scenic route will lead you past some of Pauillac's most famous vineyards - Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Latour and Mouton Rothschild.

The route then leads you south, via Saint-Julien and Moulis-en-Medoc to the village of Margaux and its famous Château Margaux. From here it is not far to the village of Lamarque where you cross the Gironde estuary on a small ferry to the medieval town of Blaye.

Take some time to explore the imposing and majestic citadel of Blaye -the splendid views across the Gironde from the ramparts are also not to be missed. You will spend the night in this atmospheric little town.

Day 3 : Blaye - St. Émilion
40miles/65 km

Today's beautiful ride is full of variety and viniculture interest. The route initially leads you along the "Corniche Fleurie" a quiet and scenic road beside the Gironde estuary. After a few kilometres you reach the well preserved town of Bourg, close to the mouth of the Dordogne River. The route then veers inland and follows a network of quiet roads over undulating terrain. You pass through a series of small villages before reaching the AOC wine region of Fronsac. The 100 or so winemakers in this region produce superb red wines, primarily Merlot. The sea of vineyards, interspersed with small hamlets and farms, makes for very pleasant cycling as you cross into Pomerol, another AOC wine region of note. World famous vineyards line your route as you make your way towards Saint-Émilion - Château Angelus, Château Cheval Blanc and Château Petrus to name a few.

At the end of today's ride you arrive in the incredibly charming wine village of Saint-Émilion where you will spend the night.

Day 4 : St. Émilion - Castillon Loop Ride
22miles/35 km

This day is omitted if you opt for the 4 night option

Today's ride is a loop ride from and to Saint-Émilion so if you like you can have a day off and simply enjoy the bustling little village. If you do opt to ride, you will follow a network of minor roads and quiet lanes through the vineyard laden landscape, east of Saint-Émilion to the Dordogne river. The pretty town of Castillon-la-Bataille enjoys an idyllic location on the riverbank and is the perfect place to enjoy a lazy lunch before heading back to Saint-Émilion through the seas of vineyards.

Day 5 : St. Émilion - Bordeaux
31 miles/50 km

Your final route closes the circle back to Bordeaux. More vineyard-lined lanes lead you to the village of Branne on the Dordogne River. Maybe a coffee is in order at one of the roadside cafés before joining an idyllic cycle path that will lead you past medieval villages, manor houses, abbeys and Roman churches back to the Garonne River and Bordeaux. Finally, you cross the city's old stone bridge to the Place de la Bourse in the heart of Bordeaux. The rest of the day is yours to explore and enjoy this fabulous and vibrant city.

Day 6 : End of trip

After breakfast it's time to checkout and head for home or your next adventure.

Bikes

On this tour you can choose between a regular touring bike, a gravel bike or an e-bike.

The regular touring bike is an alloy framed model with 21 speeds and a comfortable, relaxed riding position, perfect for a leisure cycling holiday. These bikes come equipped with handlebar bag, rear panniers, lock and a repair kit with pump.

Keen cyclists may be tempted to opt for a gravel bike instead. The rugged, lightweight frame and drop handlebars offers a more dynamic riding position and the wider tyres are capable of handling both asphalt and gravel trails. These hi-spec, 22. speed bikes come equipped with handlebar bag, rear seat-post bag (instead of panniers), lock and a repair kit with pump.

E-bikes are a popular option on this route and ensure riders can enjoy the scenery along the way whilst not working too hard at the climbs. These bikes come equipped with handlebar bag, rear panniers, lock and a repair kit with pump.

Helmets are not provided, so you will need to bring your own.

Local taxes

Some hotels in some countries have started to charge a local/tourist tax. These taxes are not included in the sale price of the tour and must be paid directly by you at check-in or checkout at the hotels. This fee varies and is ever changing but as a guide, you may be asked to pay between €1-€4 per person per night.

Getting there

Fly to Bordeaux Airport where you will be picked up and transferred to your first night’s accommodation in Cadillac. At the end of your trip catch a train, approx 1 hour, from Arcachon back to Bordeaux for your flight home.
