Upon arrival make your way to your first hotel. After check-in you are free to relax or explore. The capital city of Belgium has much to offer; we suggest visiting Grand Place where 17th century architecture meets modern bars and restaurants resulting in a unique and captivating place to visit. For a chance to gauge the character and humour of Belgians, visit Manneken Pis. Cartoons are a huge part of Belgian visual culture, the best-known series being ‘The Adventures of Tin Tin’ so a visit to the Belgian Comic Book Centre is definitely worth it.

Pedal north east towards Leuven, a university city nestled in the Flemish region of Belgium. Beer dominates the culture in this city – Leuven is the home of Stella Artois and also boasts the longest bar in the world at Oude Markt. If beer does not take your fancy you have a choice museums or galleries to visit or perhaps take time to experience the popular flower market. Afterwards cycle on to Mechelen, a scenic and striking city steeped in history. Featuring roughly 336 listed buildings including gothic and Baroque churches there is much to see in this majestic city.

Cycle along the beautiful tidal river Rupel to Bornem or nearby Puurs. Today’s ride is a short one, so there is plenty of time to take a 15 minute train ride into Antwerp. Here you can see splendid architecture, or perhaps enjoy lunch at one of the many beautiful courtyards or squares. We suggest a visit to the Cathedral of Our Lady, this astonishing monument was built over 169 years ago and really is a spectacle that is worth seeing. In Bornem then be sure to take in the fairytale-like Bornem Castle on the banks of the Oude Schelde, a tributary of the Scheldt river.

Cycle to the vibrant and medieval city of Ghent where there is much to see in this pretty city. A visit to ‘Gravensteen’ a 12th century castle which boasts a moat, turrets and arrow slits is a must. The centre of the city is well preserved, featuring original buildings and cathedrals. St. Bavo cathedral and its world famous multi-panel painting ‘The Adoration of the Majestic Lamb’ by Jan Van Eyck is not to be missed.

Cycle to Bruges, a UNESCO world heritage site. This quaint medieval town is laced with picturesque cobbled streets, wonderful canals and pretty market squares. Take a relaxing wander around the charming parks and intimate little streets where you may wish to indulge in some shopping. The Provincial Palace is a Gothic beauty. The incredible interior was completed by artists such as Hendrik and Gustaaf Pickery.

Pedal along the canals to the attractive village of Lissewege and continue to the authentic coastal village of De Haan. Perhaps enjoy some last minute shopping, a boat ride on the canal or visit some museums. Then, back to Bruges for one last chance to absorb the atmosphere, art and culture. If you haven’t already then visit ‘Basilica of the Holy Blood’, a Romanesque church where a relic of the holy blood of Jesus Christ is kept. This church is a breath taking wonder and is a great way to wrap up you Belgian adventure.
