This Czech Republic cycling holiday showcases the heart of scenic Bohemia. Starting from the beautiful, historic town of Cesky Krumlov, the route follows the meandering Vltava River on its journey north, past medieval villages, idyllic forests and rolling countryside, to the towers and spires of the Czech capital, Prague.
This is a journey through some of the country’s finest landscape, with great overnight stops where you’ll get to know the real Czech Republic. Enjoy hearty local food and the famous original Budweiser beer at source. Brooding Gothic castles overlook the winding streets of old riverside towns and centuries old stone bridges span the banks of the Vltava. On the way there are many highlights, including Hluboka Castle, the medieval town of Pisek, Orlik Castle and the village of Karlstejn.
Karlstejn Castle
Of course we shouldn’t forget Prague itself, where you’ll spend a night at either end of the trip. The Czech Capital is surely one of Europe’s most beautiful and interesting cities and the perfect size to explore on foot.
The cycling route is a mixture of flat riverside sections, forest trails and low rolling hills. You’ll be covering around 169 miles during the trip, so while the cycle tour isn’t overly challenging you’ll need a moderate level of fitness to make the most of it. There are several totally car-free sections along with the remainder on quiet country lanes.
