The Alpe Adria Cycle Path one of Europe's most incredibly scenic and surprisingly easy, leisurely cycling routes, leads cyclists across the majestic Alps from Salzburg in Austria to Grado on Italy's Adriatic Coast. Thanks to a short train ride under the spine of the Alps the route can be enjoyed by riders of all abilities.
This recently completed alpine cycle route is proving very popular with European cyclists who love the sublime scenery and traffic-free cycling through the heart of the Alps.
Choose the classic 7-night, Salzburg to the Adriatic Cycling Holiday to enjoy the whole route at a leisurely pace or, if you're pretty fit, you could consider the condensed 5-night, Salzburg to the Adriatic Cycling Break.

The Alpe-Adria cycle path is 410 kilometres long, starting in the beautiful city of Salzburg and ending in Grado, on the Italian Adriatic coast.
The majority of Alpe Adria route is ideal for regular cyclists with a good level of fitness. The route is mostly traffic-free and any climbs are relatively short. E-bikes are a popular choice, allowing riders to relax and enjoy the stunning scenery.
It offers a great combination of fabulous, ever-changing scenery with overnight stays in historic cities and pretty alpine towns - plus it's pretty much all on a lovely bike path.
Fly to Salzburg airport (Gatwick and Stansted offer year-round flights direct) and then take the regular public bus into the city. Alternatively, you can also fly to Munich airport followed by a commuter train into the centre and then an intercity train to Salzburg – total journey time is approximately 2.5 hours.
This will depend on your final destination as defined on your selected Alpe Adria holiday. If you are travelling the full trail, you can fly to Stansted from Trieste Airport (also known as the Aeroporto Friuli-Venezia Giulia), which is just 11 miles from Grado. It's also easy to reach Venice Marco Polo airport using public transport and the journey time is roughly 2.5 hours.
Our easy cycling holidays offer short daily rides on mostly level terrain. A typical day’s ride will take 2 – 3 hours at a leisurely pace and the remainder of the day will be free for you to explore further or simply relax. These rides are particularly recommended for newcomers to cycling holidays and for families.
Our leisurely cycle holidays will suit those who are reasonably fit through regular exercise of one kind or another – not necessarily cycling. On the whole, the terrain will be level but there may also be a few small hills to contend with along the way too. Daily rides will typically take around 3 – 4 hours to complete.
Our moderate cycle holidays are for regular cyclists, who are used to longer rides with regular climbs. A good level of fitness is needed and you can expect to be in the saddle for between 4 and 5 hours each day.
These holidays are for seasoned cyclists who cycle long distances regularly and who enjoy the thrill of long days in the saddle. There will undoubtedly be some challenging climbs along the way and you can expect to cover between 55 and 75 miles each day.
This cycling holiday follows the early stages of the Alpe-Adria Cycle Path through some of Austria’s most impressive alpine scenery. Along the way you’ll see picture-perfect alpine villages, serene mountain lakes, glistening glaciers, tumbling waterfalls and cavernous gorges. While you are always surrounded by alpine vistas, the route sticks to the valley floor offering relaxed cycling along bike paths and low-traffic roads.
