Asturian coastline
The route leads you from the Asturias/Cantabria border to the seafood city of Gijon (100kms to the west as the crow flies). Along the way you’ll stay in some wonderful little hotels, including ornate Casa Indianas built by rich locals in the early 1900s on their return from America. You’ll enjoy wonderful sea views for most of the ride and at times find yourself cycling along the famous pilgrims trail, the Camino de Santiago (St.James Way) that ends in Santiago de Compostella in neighbouring Galicia.
This is a real beach-lover’s cycling holiday as many of the numerous beaches and coves along this stretch of coast are truly breathtaking. Top tip – pack you swim-gear in your pannier each day.
On this moderate cycling holiday the terrain is undulating so you’ll need to be prepared for regular climbs along the way. An e-bike is worth considering if you have concerns about the climbs.

From Santillana del Mar in Cantabria you’ll travel west along the verdant coast to San Vicente de Barquera, then cross the River Deva to enter Asturias and the fishing village of Llanes. From Llanes you are transferred up into the mountains for a fantastic descent through a fertile valley down to the coastal town of Somo. From here you can visit the lively regional capital of Santander and explore the gorgeous, secluded beaches along the coast.
San Vicente de la Barquera
This is a region of Spain less frequented by tourists, a rich, fertile countryside rising gently upwards from the coast to join the Picos de Europa mountain range 20kms inland. There’s so much to see around here, so you’ll appreciate the three ‘free days’ during the tour where you’ll be based in the same place and can take circular rides to explore the local area.
This Spanish cycle tour is flexible enough to be suitable for a range of abilities. If you’re more interested in relaxed, easy-paced rides with the emphasis on enjoying the scenery, then you can take shorter routes and take advantage of time off for sightseeing on the free days. If you fancy more of a challenge, however, then you can venture inland to the hillier terrain and extend your rides accordingly.

Lanzarote is a volcanic island and in the Timanfaya National Park you can learn about the lengthy and devastating eruptions that took place here between 1730 and 1824. You’ll also be able to see evidence of the of the magma still bubbling away beneath your feet!
In the charming fishing village of El Golfo you can enjoy a seafood meal at one of the many seafood restaurants before cycling along an incredibly smooth and scenic coast road to Playa Blanca on the island’s southern tip.
On day six the optional ride on neighbouring Fuerteventura is quite challenging but you could of course just relax on the fabulous beaches on the outskirts of Playa Blanca.
The final ride brings you through the unique, ash-covered vineyards of La Geria to Puerto del Carmen and then along the coast to Arrecife, where you’ll stay in a lovely beachside hotel.
The route will appeal to regular cyclists who don’t mind a few climbs but that said, there are shorter route options on most days and on two occasions you can actually choose to take the day off as you’ll be staying 2 nights in the same hotel. We also offer an e-bike option on this tour which would bring it within the capabilities of even the most leisurely cyclists.

The following morning your adventure begins as you cycle out of the city and start to follow the glorious Atlantic Coast northwards. For the next six days you will cover between 30 and 68 kms per day on flat or gently undulating terrain as you follow the coastline north. Each day brings new and exciting experiences. Here you can enjoy peaceful cycling on remote lanes and tracks through a beautiful, rugged landscape. Choose from a range of routes that take in historic, Moorish cities such as Granada and Cordova as well as the region’s famous white villages of Ronda, Olvera and Arcos de la Frontera. The undulating terrain means these cycling holidays are best suited to regular cyclists with a good level of fitness.
The Balearic Islands are very popular with leisure cyclists, offering a pleasant mix of scenic country lanes, warm temperatures, and some beautiful old towns. If you like to intersperse your cycling days with swim-breaks on gorgeous beaches then our cycling holidays on Menorca and Majorca will be right up your street.
More and more cyclists are discovering the wide-open spaces, quiet winding roads and rugged green countryside of northern Spain. The wild, Atlantic beaches and verdant countryside of this beautiful lesser-known region reveals a different side to Spain from the busy costas further south. Follow the Ebro River through the hallowed vineyards and charming villages of La Rioja or explore the beautiful Atlantic coastline of Cantabria and Asturias, cycling through the regal Picos de Europa Mountains.
Many agree that if you want to see the real Spain then you should head for the interior of the country and a prime example of this is our Segovia Cycling Holiday. Here you will discover ancient, beautifully preserved towns and gorgeous rustic villages all set amidst breathtaking scenery far from any well-trodden, or pedalled tourist trail.
In Extremadura you can enjoy a very different kind of cycling holiday, exploring medieval towns each day and spending each night in unforgettable Paradors – unique, converted palaces, monasteries and castles.
Lanzarote’s fine network of smooth quiet roads and year-round warm temperatures attracts cyclists from all over Europe, particularly in the colder months when cycling on the continent is less than appealing. Our 7 night leisurely tour reveals the island’s many different sides, from quaint traditional villages in the interior to amazing sea-views from cliff-top vantage points. You’ll also cycle through a volcanic national park and spend a day exploring the neighbouring island of Fuerteventura.
We offer one of the widest choices of leisure cycling holidays in Spain so get in touch today and let us help you plan your Spanish cycling adventure.
